The History of CHSAF
The College of the Holy Spirit Alumnae Foundation, Inc.(CHSAF) is a non-stock, non-profit organization duly organized and existing under the laws of the Philippines. It was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on March 30, 1981. It was set up for the purpose of keeping alive the spirit of Veritas in Caritate and serving as the center for communication and information among the alumni of the Holy Ghost College Manila (HGCM), which was later renamed as the College of the Holy Spirit Manila (CHSM).
In 1958, the alumni of HGCM were formally organized into the Holy Ghost College Alumnae Association (HGCAA). It was a vital partner of the school in the latter’s efforts to reach out to its graduates, particularly in organizing and celebrating Homecoming Day. In time, the school looked to the association as a solid force from which to draw support for its socially-oriented projects. In response, the HGCAA launched numerous undertakings that defined the school-alumnae relationship. Among them were the Holy Spirit Free School, the Holy Spirit Free Clinic, and the Holy Spirit Social Center.
Following the change of the school’s name to College of the Holy Spirit in 1965, the HGCAA was renamed the College of the Holy Spirit Alumnae Association (CHSAA).
In 1981, the CHSAA Board under the leadership of Myrna Almario-Adriano found it timely to introduce new measures to give the association more room for growth. To raise more funds, the Board deemed it advantageous for the association to transform into a foundation. This gave birth to the College of the Holy Spirit Alumnae Foundation, Inc. (CHSAF).
To have a legal personality, the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws of CHSAF were registered with the SEC on March 30, 1981. As a result of this transformation, the organizational linkage between College of the Holy Spirit Manila (CHSM) had to change. Having its own legal personality, CHSAF was no longer a part of the school’s organizational structure. A specific function, career orientation and job placement for new CHSM college graduates was taken over by the CHSM Guidance Center. All other alumni matters were left to be handled by the CHSAF.
Today, CHSAF continues to support CHSM’s institutional thrusts. CHSAF and/or alumni batches implement programs and projects that respond to the school’s needs such as the scholarship program, the repair and upgrading of various physical facilities (classrooms, chapel, etc.), and the conduct of faculty development seminars.
The support is mutual. CHSAF continues to be guided by the SSpS Congregation through the Moderator, a sister appointed by the SSpS Provincial. The SSpS Moderator sits in the CHSAF Board and is the main link of CHSAF to the SSpS nuns.
